Overuse of the word "favorite"
Locals who are regular customers have all noticed how often I use the word favorite. A certain wine rack next to the counter bears the sign, "Carrie's Favorites." It contains Cherry Hill Pinot Noir, August Cellars Riesling, Abacela Merlot, and more. Elsewhere in the store is a small Merlot section, and one sign there reads "Carrie's all time favorite Merlot." The day after I put that sign up, I sold a considerable quantity of Abacela Merlot. It truly is my all time favorite Merlot, but the sign seemed to sell even more of this wine.
I like to use the phrase "favorite customer." That generally defines someone who likes to buy wine in my shop and is fun to do business with. I have a lot of favorite customers. Lou Caputo has correctly pointed out that I use this phrase pretty liberally. He should know. He's my favorite customer. |
