Boxed Wine (gasp) ???
I'm shocked to see that wine sells of the "with a spigot" variety have increased 77% over the past year -- to nearly $31 million in sales. Of boxed wine, the highest-priced segment ($16 or more) is growing the fastest. There are brands introduced in the past two years fueling the growth.
Just what is the advantage, if any? The wine stays fresher longer because a bag in the box keeps the air out, eliminating oxidation. A 3-liter box (equivalent to 4-750 ml. bottles of wine) should keep for at least four weeks after opening.
All I can say is, no thank you. |
