WINE & BEER TASTINGS:

In addition to the wine tastings with special guests listed below, The Wine Place is a satellite tasting room for J. Scott Cellars.  On open days other than Saturday, tasting is offered with the $5 tasting fee refundable with any J. Scott Cellars purchase.

Sat., Feb. 4, 12-5 PM Oregon Wine Sampler.   This tasting brings a unique chance to sample some of Oregon's bounty.  Four wines will be served, each from a different winery:  Capitello Sauvignon Blanc, Melrose Dolocetto, Stangeland Rose of Tempranillo, and Owen Roe Sharecropper's Cabernet Sauvignon.

Fri., Feb. 10, 4-7 PM Beer Tasting:  Hopworks Urban Brewery.   Portland's first eco-brewpub opened in 2007 and offers handcrafted organic beers.  Hopworks is renewably powered and "cradle to gate" carbon neutral.   The 20-barrel brewery produces 8,500 barrels a year.  Their beers have won numerous awards including two gold medals at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival.

Sat., Feb. 11, 12-5 PM Wine Tasting:  Brandborg Winery.  Located in the tiny Umpqua Valley town of Elkton, Brandborg's 50 acre mountainous vineyard has southern exposure and is dedicated primarily to Pinot Noir.  Brandborg handcrafts wines with minimal intervention to preserve the character of the fruit.

Tue., Feb. 14, 12-5 PM  Wine for Valentines Day.  Need a little something for your Valentine, or for Tuesday night in general?  It's sip and shop time, so stop in for a little bubbly or red wine.

Fri., Feb. 17, 4-7 PM Beer Tasting:  Laurelwood Brewing Co.  Brewing Portland's first certified organic beers (meeting Oregon Tilth standards), Laurelwood was opened in 2001 by Mike and Cathy DeKalb.  Laurelwood's Workhorse IPA won over 63 other IPAs to win the Second Annual IPA Competition in 2009.

Sat., Feb. 18, 1-4 PM Italian Wines.   Meet favorite guest Aaron Coe of Casa Bruno Wines.  A wine industry professional for many years, Italian wines are Coe's specialty.  Traveling around Italy sampling good wines is only part of his enviable profession.  A natural story teller, Coe brings not only the excellent wine, but also the stories behind the wine and winemakers.  This tasting is not to be missed!

Sun., Feb. 19, 1-4 PM:  J. Scott Cellars.   J. Scott Cellars of Eugene produces eleven wines.  The Wine Place contains J. Scott's satellite tasting room, and pours a sampling of wines each day.  This tasting will include the newly released 2010 vintage of Petite Sirah.

Fri., Feb. 24, 4-7 PM  Beer Tasting:  Caldera Brewing Co.  Caldera produced their first brew in 1997.  For the first eight years, Caldera was draught only until June 2005 when the Pale Ale was put into cans.  Caldera is the first microbrewery in the State of Oregon to brew and can its own beer.  They produce 11 year round brews, six seasonal brews, plus five others.

Sat., Feb. 25, 1-4 Spanish Wines.   Aaron Jensen of D'Vine Wines is special guest for this Spanish wine tasting.  Spain boasts 2.9 million acres of vineyard, and over 600 varietals.  This tasting features a selection of Spanish wines in a wide price range, something for every budget and palate.
