About Free Wine Tasting Events:
We love good wine, AND we love customers with good etiquette. Help keep wine tasting free by making a purchase on the day of tasting. If you enjoy the wines being poured by the special guest, buy some! If not, your purchase of other items from the store is in order. There are many wines and gourmet items to choose from. If you are not making any purchases, your $5 donation is appreciated.
Sat., July 4, 1-4 PM Red, White & Sparkling! What to do after the Yachats La-De-Da Parade? Wine tasting, of course! Meet Therese Schubert of Lemma Wines, distributors and importers of fine wines. Good weather is ordered for the day, and you can enjoy wine-by-the-glass on the deck.
Sat., July 11, 1-4 PM David Hill Vineyard & Winery. Located on land homesteaded and planted with grapes in 1883, David Hill Winery has some of the oldest vines in Oregon. There are 40 acres of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewurtztraminer. Meet winemaker Jason Bull and sample David Hill estate wines.
SPECIAL EVENT: Friday, July 17, 6 pm: Kastle Hill Wines. Meet the always fun and informative Monika Rauch. Monika is a wine importer and wine educator. This event is $50, reservations required (call 541-547-5275).
MENU: Gathering Time: Sparkling Wine Tasting -- served with specially paired cheeses Secco Blanc de Noir (sparkling Pinot Noir), Secco Verde, Secco Rose (Merlot, Pinot Noir, Portugesia). Salad Course: Fresh and mild organic greens, a hint of mint leaves, feta cheese, and watermelon tossed with a strawberry vinaigrette. Wine Pairing: Silvaner Kabinett Entrée: Pasta with a lightly spicy sausage that highlights the hint of spicy notes in the wine. Wine Pairing: Cuvee Augenblick Rotwein (blend of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder) Also enjoy a taste of : Dornfelder Rotwein Dessert: Chocolate-dipped strawberries. Sat., July 18, 1-4 PM Daisy Creek. Daisy Creek Vineyard is located in the historic gold rush town of Jacksonville, Oregon. The vineyard itself surrounds and spans the remnants of a mine where prospectors panned for gold. Meet vineyard owners Russ and Margaret Lyon and enjoy tastes of Viognier, Syrah, and Lyon Red (table wine).
Sat., July 25, 1-4PM Viento Wines. Taste the wines of a Gorge original. Viento wines are created by Rich Cushman, Hood River native and Oregon winemaker for over 25 years. Viento wines are carefully crafted to emphasize balance, fruit, and the character of the vineyard. Meet winemaker Rich Cushman in his first visit to The Wine Place.
Sat., Aug. 1, 1-4 PM Amity Vineyards. Among Oregon's pioneer wineries, Amity is located in Yamhill county, 7 miles from McMinnville. Their ECO Pinot Noir is organic with no detectable sulfites, and won a gold medal at the Oregon State Fair last year. Meet Matt Gibson at this tasting.
Sat., Aug. 8, 1-4 PM Thistle Wines. Thistle Wines began when winery owners Jon and Laura Jennison moved to Oregon in 1996 to pursue the dream of making wine from their own organically grown vineyard. Their 2007 Pinot Blanc was featured at the Portland Indie Wine Festival. Meet winemaker/tractor driver/sales guy Jon Jennison in his first visit to The Wine Place.
Sat., Aug. 15, 1-4 PM Roxy Ann Winery. Inspired by the Rogue Valley's natural beauty, Roxy Ann Winery was founded in 2002 at the historic Hillcrest Orchard in east Medford that has been bearing fruit for 100 years. They are LIVE and Salmon Safe certified. Their wines have won considerable acclaim in a short period of time. This is Roxy Ann's first visit to The Wine Place.
SPECIAL EVENT: Friday, August 21, 6 pm: August Cellars (meet Tom Schaad). Casual wine dinner.
Sat., Aug. 22, 1-4PM August Cellars. August Cellars is a family owned winery in Newberg. The farm land was purchased in 1942 and has been continuously farmed since then. The winery was established in 2002, and produces about 2,500 cases per year. Meet Tom Schaad, a popular and favorite guest at The Wine Place.
Sat., Aug 29, 1-4PM Lorelli Wines. Rich Lorelli has been growing grapes in the Applegate Valley for 20 years. As a viticulturist, he uses his talents to produce unique, award-winning wines. Join Rich Lorelli for a tasting that is sure to delight.
Sat., Sept. 5, 1-4 PM J. Scott Cellars. J. Scott Cellars is a small boutique wine producer that features wines of the Pacific Northwest. At this tasting you will meet owner/winemaker Jonathan Scott Oberlander, the epitome of the new generation of winemakers who utilize a combination of Old World winemaking traditions with New World technology and innovation.
Sun., Sept. 6, Coeur de Terre. Founded in 1998 by Scott and Lisa Neal, Coeur de Terre (which means heart of the earth) is located in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range. They do it all: planted the vineyard, live on the estate, farm the land, and make the wine. Meet Scott Neal in a tasting that includes Pinot Noir and Riesling.
